While walking the streets of Seattle, Washington one evening many years ago, Michael Robert Pierson overheard a man and woman arguing in the streets. The man was proclaiming his love to her, but the woman wasn't having any of it and yelled at him, "If you loved me so much, you wouldn't have f**ked Homeless Betty!" Thinking that would be a great name for a Blues Musician, Pierson began his blues music journey and his moniker became "Homeless Betty".

Pierson studied music theory for four years at St. Martin's College under Brother Ronald Hurst (a one-time student of Nadia Boulanger). After graduation Pierson continued to work on his music and began experimenting with recording his music using a Fostex four-track cassette recorder. Soon though, the demands of work soon took precedence. He began a career in resort/hotel management that took him to Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State (Doe Bay Village), Santa Barbara, CA (Hidden Valley Ranch), Maui, Hawaii (The Whaler at Kaanapali Beach) and Palm Springs, CA (The Palm Desert Resorter and The Riveria). During that time, he continued to noodle around with the guitar, learn other instruments and continue his experimentation with recording.

In 1995 he started a publishing company that pioneered the use of websites and electronic newsletters for common interest developments (Community Association Pubishing Services, Inc.) and since then has written two best-selling management books (Taking Control - Time Management & Communication Tools for Community Association Management; and Creating Community - The Art of Empowerment in Community Association Living), published two books of poetry (Throwing Sinful Glances Towards the Snake; and Listening to the Silent Cry of a Broken Soul) and established himself as a moderately successful abstract expressionist painter.

Deciding to step up his musicianship, Pierson began studying guitar with master guitarist Beau MacDougall (Grammy nominated for his debut album "This Side of Heaven" in 1981). His work with Beau inspired him to begin writing, playing and recording again. In 2014 he founded Big D Records and built a recording studio in Bermuda Dunes, CA. "Not Quite Live Blues" is Homeless Betty's first album (released in 2015), and "Sleeping With The Devil" was released in 2018. Pierson also began utilizing the studio for podcast creation and produces the SOUL PATH SESSIONS podcast. He is currently working on the third Homeless Betty album "Lost My Drink" and it will be released in 2025. The title track to that album can be found on YouTube HERE
